Marsha Dickson Barbour grew up in Monroeville, Alabama. In 1965 her family moved to Canton, Mississippi, where she graduated from Canton High School. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in marketing, from the University of Mississippi in December of 1970.
Marsha and Haley Barbour married in December of 1971 in Canton, Mississippi. They have two sons, Sterling (29) and Reeves (24). Since their marriage the family has lived in Yazoo City, Mississippi where Mrs. Barbour has been active in school, church, and community service activities. She particularly enjoys golf and other outdoor recreation.
Mrs. Barbour is working to support her husband’s agenda for Mississippi and wants to contribute to making a difference in the lives of all Mississippians. She is especially active in early childhood development issues and Mississippi tourism. She believes each can make a significant impact on Mississippi’s economic future and the quality of life for all Mississippians.
Since becoming First Lady, Mrs. Barbour has served in a number of capacities, including Honorary Chairperson, Glory of Baroque Dresden Exhibit and member, Board of Directors, International Ballet Competition. She is a member of Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free, an initiative of First Spouses from across the United States.
Mrs. Barbour looks forward to the challenges and opportunities that will confront her and her husband in the next four years.
