FIRST LADY MARSHA BARBOUR PRESENTS PROCLAMATION FOR “FINANCIAL LITERACY FOR YOUTH MONTH”
OFFICIAL PROCLAMATION
(Jackson, Miss.) – Mississippi First Lady Marsha Barbour today presented a proclamation issued from Governor Haley Barbour’s office proclaiming the month of April, 2006 as “Financial Literacy for Youth Month” at the Mississippi JumpStart Coalition for Personal Finance Literacy’s Annual Press Conference and Awards Ceremony.
The event began with a networking breakfast, after which the First Lady read aloud the proclamation to the Coalition and honored winning students of Jumpstart’s 2006 Financial Literacy Essay and Poster Contest by presenting their awards.
“I am pleased to present this proclamation and recognize these students for their achievements,” said Mrs. Barbour. “Mississippi’s youth are becoming better equipped with the necessary tools to thrive in the adult financial world, which is a positive step toward a bright future for our state.”
The mission of Mississippi JumpStart is to improve the personal financial literacy of all Mississippians with a focus on the state’s youth by promoting the teaching of personal finance skills. Members and partners include individuals from various government agencies, universities, associations, youth education groups, lending institutions, as well as non profit and for profit providers of personal finance education.
