GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR’S JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE SEARCHING TO FILL VACANCY
(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour’s Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is conducting a search to fill the vacancy on the Leflore County Court as a result of Judge Solomon Osborne’s resignation effective May 30, 2008.
“Whenever a vacancy occurs and it becomes my duty to appoint someone to the bench, everyone interested in the job will first be vetted by this committee,” Governor Barbour said. “A fair and impartial judiciary is essential to the protection of the rights and freedoms of the citizens of our state and only the most qualified, conscientious, dedicated and reputable people should be appointed to serve the public as judges.”
The Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee will review nominees in accordance with Executive Order 914 and make recommendations to the Governor. The 31-member committee includes a chairman and ten attorneys from each of the state’s Supreme Court Districts.
Anyone interested in recommending prospective candidates should contact the Governor’s Chief Counsel at 601-576-2038 or Ed Brunini, Jr., chairman of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, at 601-948-3101. All recommendations should be submitted prior to July 1, 2008.
