A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center predicted the potential for the entire State of Mississippi to be severely affected by tropical weather, beginning on September 20, 2007, to include sheltering of evacuees from other states, hurricane and tropical storm force winds, severe thunderstorms, flooding, and possible tornadoes; and
WHEREAS, this storm system was expected to cause personal injuries, damage to homes, businesses, public property, and threatened the safety of the citizens and property in portions of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, in consideration of the health and safety of the residents and the protection of their property within the affected areas, and in the public interest, all steps were taken to protect people and property; and
WHEREAS, on September 21, 2007, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, pursuant to the authority vested in me under the Constitution of the State of Mississippi and Section 33-15-11-(b) (17), Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, and in the public interest and for the general welfare, proclaimed a State of Emergency to exist in the areas of the State of Mississippi affected by this tropical severe weather system, which was to exist and remain in effect until such time as this threat to public safety should cease to exist as prescribed in Section 33-15-11(b)(17), Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended; and
WHEREAS, this threat to public safety has ceased to exist as prescribed in Section 33-15-11(b)(17), Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Haley Barbour, Governor of the State of Mississippi, by virtue of the authority vested in me by Section 33-15-11(b)(17), Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, do hereby issue this Proclamation to declare that a State of Emergency no longer exists in the areas of the State of Mississippi affected by this tropical severe weather system.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Mississippi to be affixed.
