STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR ON CHEVRON’S EXPANSION ANNOUNCEMENT

(JACKSON, Mississippi) – Governor Haley Barbour today released the following statement on Chevron’s announcement it will expand its Pascagoula refinery:

“Chevron’s announcement of its intention to again expand its Pascagoula refinery is another strong statement of confidence in Mississippi. I couldn’t be more pleased that this outstanding company will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in a new base oil manufacturing facility. It means more good-paying jobs for skilled Mississippi workers and again puts Mississippi in the forefront of producing energy products for which there is a growing worldwide demand.

“The company has noted it was the first to produce and market premium base oil, and with additional manufacturing from the Pascagoula facility, Chevron would become the world’s largest producer of this product. This further distinguishes the very productive partnership among an outstanding corporate citizen, Pascagoula and Jackson County, and the State of Mississippi.”
