GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS BROWN TO STATE PAROLE BOARD

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Clarence E. Brown, of Yazoo City, to the State Parole Board. This board places offenders in an electronic monitoring program and maintains a central registry of paroled inmates, including offender information such as name, address, photograph, crime for which paroled, and other information necessary to monitoring parolees.

“Clarence will be a great asset to this regulatory board,” Governor Barbour said. “His proven work ethic and dedication make him an excellent choice to serve on the Parole Board, and I am proud he has accepted this position. I feel confident Clarence will serve the citizens of Mississippi well.”

Brown is board president of the Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Delta, Yazoo City Unit. He served 28 years with the United States Military, retiring in 1984 as master sergeant. While on active duty, Brown was chosen twice as special nursing staff to President Lyndon B. Johnson. Additionally, he coordinated the entire Combat Dispensary as the Non Commissioned in Charge during the Vietnam tour and was responsible for management, staffing, and the performance of all paraprofessionals, military, and civilians.

Brown’s career outside of military duties includes a long history of medical service. He worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Laurel Ridge Psychiatric Hospital and Bexar County Mental Health Mental Retardation Center. Also, Brown was staff nurse at the Madison General Hospital, nursing supervisor of Beverly Enterprises at the Albermarle Living Center, and assistant director of blood collection at the South Texas Regional Blood Bank. He attended both Baylor University and San Antonio College.
