GOVERNOR BARBOUR REAPPOINTS SOLLIE TO COUNTY JAIL OFFICERS STANDARDS AND TRAINING BOARD
(JACKSON, Mississippi) — Governor Haley Barbour announced the reappointment of Sheriff William D. “Billy” Sollie, of Meridian, to the County Jail Officers Standards and Training Board, which establishes educational and training standards for employment or appointment as a jail officer.
“Sheriff Sollie has been an exceptional member of this board, and I look forward to his continued service to the State of Mississippi in this capacity,” Governor Barbour said.
Sollie has worked in law enforcement for more than 30 years and currently serves as Lauderdale County’s Sheriff. Prior to this position, Sollie retired as Chief of Police for the City of Meridian. He is past president and member of the Mississippi Sheriffs Association; member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force executive board; and member of the State Accreditation for Professional Law Enforcement Agencies. He formerly served on the Big Brothers and Big Sisters state board as well as the Partnership for Healthy Mississippi board. Sollie is the recipient of the Liberty Bell Award, Monseigneur John J. Burns award, and the Mississippi Juvenile Officer of the Year award.
Sollie is a graduate of Meridian Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy in 1975 and was a member of the Class 167 of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy. Sollie and his wife, Diann, have two children, Steven and Caitlin.
