GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS WEATHERS TO LAW ENFORCEMENT STANDARDS AND TRAINING BOARD
(Jackson, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour today announced the appointment of Jon Mark Weathers, of Natchez, to the Law Enforcement Standards and Training Board, which is designed to establish educational and training standards for law enforcement officers and to establish curriculum requirements for police training school courses and programs.
“Jon Mark is an excellent choice and brings a wealth of talent to the table. I am confident his skills will be beneficial in carrying out the duties of this important board,” Governor Barbour said.
Weathers, District Attorney for the 12th District of Mississippi, has practiced law since 1972, when he served as city attorney in Richton. That same year, Weathers was admitted to the bar, as well as the Mississippi State Courts, U.S. District Courts of Mississippi, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. A member of the American, Mississippi and South Central Mississippi Bar associations, Weathers also holds membership with the American Trial Lawyers Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit.
Weathers attended Pearl River Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a bachelor’s degree. He received a law degree from the University of Mississippi, where he was involved with the Lamar Society of International Law.
