DRA RELEASES $500,000 TO THE CITY OF NATCHEZ
Funds will allow the city to extend sewage line to prison site
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Delta Regional Authority will provide the final $500,000 in matching funds to extend the Natchez sewer lines to the Corrections Corporation of America prison site in Adams County, Senators Thad Cochran and Trent Lott, Governor Haley Barbour, and Congressman Chip Pickering said today. Funding for this sewer project will accelerate the completion of the project, which is expected to create approximately 300 jobs.
“I am pleased that the Delta Regional Authority has provided funding necessary to move construction of the facility along,” Senator Cochran said. “Southwest Mississippi is an important part of our state and this new facility will help create economic confidence in the area by generating hundreds of new jobs.”
“This is an important project for Natchez, Adams County and really all of Southwest Mississippi,” Senator Lott said. “It will help provide jobs and promote new economic activity throughout the area. Anytime you expand or upgrade water or waste water service it is a well-placed, long-term investment in the community that can promote new residential and commercial growth.”
Governor Barbour said: “I am pleased that federal, state, local and private sources are working very closely together to expedite this major new job-creating project in Adams County. The Delta Regional Authority’s decision to step in with this part of the infrastructure financing is significant and timely, and underscores the importance of Corrections Corporation of America’s latest investment in our state.”
Congressman Chip Pickering said, “The investment of these DRA water and sewer funds will be directly translated into around 300 new jobs for Adams County and southwest Mississippi. This public-private partnership to improve infrastructure, allows for economic development projects like Corrections Corporation of America to build facilities that increase the tax base and personal incomes for the community.”
The 1668-bed facility is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2008.
