GOVERNOR BARBOUR APPOINTS SOLOMON TO TOBACCO CONTROL ADVISORY COUNCIL
(JACKSON, Mississippi)—Governor Haley Barbour has announced the appointment of Dana Solomon, of Grenada, to the Mississippi Tobacco Control Advisory Council, which was established as part of S.B. 2764 during the 2007 Legislative Session. The council makes recommendations to the State Board of Health regarding rules and regulations of a statewide tobacco education, prevention, and cessation program.
“Dana’s healthcare experience makes her an excellent choice for this board,” Governor Barbour said. “She will serve the citizens of Mississippi well, and I look forward to her good works in this important capacity.”
Solomon, a Registered Nurse, works as an office manager in her husband’s private practice in Grenada. Previously she worked as a staff nurse at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.; New York University Medical Center; Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.; and Horizon Mental Health Management, Inc., in Kosciusko, Miss. Solomon has also served in a variety of clinical settings, including medical-surgical, urology, labor and delivery, mental health, nurse educator, and nurse manager. Within her community, Solomon served as the Parent-Teacher Association president for Kosciusko Public Schools from 2001 to 2003, and was voted “Parent of the Year” for Mississippi’s 3rd Congressional District in 2002. In 2006, she was a committee member for the American Heart Walk.
Currently, Solomon is pursuing a master’s degree in nursing from Delta State University. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Georgetown University and also holds a bachelor’s degree in foreign service and international economics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Solomon and her husband, Dr. Darley Solomon, have four children, Bo, Zachary, Jared, and Jessica.
