(Jackson, Miss.) – Governor Haley Barbour today announced that Debbra K. Halford, of Meadville, has been appointed to the Mississippi Chancery Court (4th District) representing Amite, Franklin, Walthall, and Pike counties. Halford will serve in former Judge Hollis McGehee’s post due to his recent retirement.

“My Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee has worked hard to ensure only qualified, conscientious, and dedicated people serve as judges,” said Governor Barbour. “Debbra is an outstanding choice for this post. She will be an asset to Mississippi’s judicial system.”

Mrs. Halford has been in private practice in Meadville since 1987, with an emphasis in Chancery Court Practice and Estate and Commercial Representation. She received her law degree from Mississippi College School of Law in 1986. Halford is a member of the Mississippi State Bar, American Bar Association, Mississippi Municipal League, Mississippi Prosecutors Association and the Mississippi Municipal Judges Association.

She is a member of the Meadville Baptist Church and the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. Halford is married to W.J. “Bill” Halford, Jr. and they have two children.

In the beginning of his term, Governor Barbour issued Executive Order 914 which created a Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee to review all qualified applicants for judicial appointments. Every judge Barbour has appointed has been screened by the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee and found fully qualified to serve.
