Governor Barbour Appoints Harden to Heart Disease and
Stroke Prevention Taskforce
(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Alice V. Harden, of Jackson, to the Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Taskforce. This task force is designed to make available state-of-the-art information on heart disease and stroke education, prevention, and treatment to health care providers in Mississippi.
“Senator Harden has a great interest in preventing heart disease and stroke,” said Governor Barbour. “She is dedicated to promoting health awareness, and I know she will do an excellent job in serving the citizens of Mississippi.”
Harden has worked as an educator and currently serves as a senator for Hinds County in the Mississippi Legislature. Harden attended Jackson State University, earning a Bachelor and Master of Science degree. She is Chairman of the Universities & Colleges committee and also serves on the Appropriations; Corrections; Education; Elections; Fees, Salaries & Administration; Interstate & Federal Cooperation and Labor committees. Harden is a member of the Mississippi Association of Educators, the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the League of Women’s Voters.
Additionally, she is a member of NOBEL Women, the National Conference of State Legislators, and chairs the Southern Legislative Conference’s Education Committee and the Mississippi Advisory Council to the United States Civil Rights Commission. She represents Mississippi on the Education Commission of the States.
