Governor Barbour Makes Appointments to
Mississippi Business Finance Corporation
(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointments of Sam Albritton, of Gulfport; Richard Devoe, of Oxford; Gary J. Harkins, of Brandon; Marcus Martin, of Laurel; and Clark Pittman, of Starkville, as members to the Mississippi Business Finance Corporation.
“I am very proud of these appointments,” said Governor Barbour. “Each brings a wealth of talent to the table, and I know they will do an excellent job in serving the citizens of Mississippi.”
Albritton will serve a six year term, ending June 30, 2010. He is currently a City Councilman, Ward Six, for the City of Gulfport, and also works as the owner, insurance agent, and registered securities representative for Albritton Insurance Agency. He is a Leadership Mississippi graduate; Albritton also attended the Baptist University of America and the Life Underwriter’s Training Council (LUTCF), where he graduated with LUTCF professional designation.
Devoe will a serve six year term, ending June 30, 2010. A graduate of the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and Business Administration and Finance, Devoe is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Personal Financial Specialist (AICPA). Currently, Devoe works as managing owner of Church, Devoe, and Associates, LLC, Certified Public Accouting and Financial Services Firm. Devoe is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a member of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Board of Aldermen for the City of Oxford, and is a past member and Chairman of the City of Oxford Planning Commission.
Harkins will serve an unexpired term, ending June 30, 2009. Harkins graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, where he received a Bachelor’s degree. Throughout his career, Harkins has worked in pharmaceutical sales for Charles Pfizer & Company; with Harkins Company (co-owner), Agriculture Supply Business; with Terry Hairston Realty, Incorporated, Commercial Real Estate Sales & Leasing; and with Harkins Realty- Real Estate Development, Construction. Harkins is a past member of the Mississippi Association of Realtors and Jackson Association of Realtors and the National Homebuilders Association. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Mississippi Homebuilders Association, the Jackson Homebuilders Association, and the Jackson Apartment Owners & Managers Association.
Martin will serve an unexpired term, ending June 30, 2006. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Public Accounting from Mississippi State University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Martin established the accounting practice of Marcus J. Martin, CPA as a Sole Practitioner in Laurel; he has previously worked as a manager with Holt, Stevens, and Associated, and as an accountant with the Mississippi State Department of Audit. A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Martin has also served as the President of the Southeastern Chapters of the Mississippi Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA).
Pittman, serving an unexpired term, ending June 30, 2009, studied electrical engineering at Mississippi State University, 1976-1980. He began working at Southern Alarm and Communications in 1982, and is now serving as the President. A Deacon at Grace Presbyterian Church, Pittman is a member of Starkville Rotary Club.
