Governor Barbour Makes Appointments to Mississippi Crimestoppers

(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointments of Marti “Naron” Morgan, of Jackson; Diane Sager, of Pass Christian; Walter Tucker, of Brandon; Kenneth Wheeler, of Tupelo; and Elijah Wilson, of Oxford, to the Mississippi Crimestoppers for unexpired terms, ending June 30, 2006. The Mississippi Crimestoppers board advises and assists in the creation of local crime stoppers programs, fosters the detection of crime and encourage persons to report information about criminal acts, encourages news and other media to promote local crime stoppers programs, and helps law enforcement agencies detect and combat crime by increasing the flow of information to and between law enforcement agencies.

“These appointees are well-qualified,” said Governor Barbour. “Each has extensive experience in this area, and I feel confident they will serve the people of Mississippi well.”

Marti “Naron” Morgan retired from the State Department of Corrections in 1994. During her time with the Department of Corrections, Morgan served as a probation and parole officer and Director of the Hinds County Restitution Center, a residential diversionary program for young adult males. Since retirement, Morgan has worked in the hospitality industry and currently works as a Convention Sales Manager for the Jackson Convention and Visitors Bureau. Morgan has served on the Metro Jackson Crimes Stoppers Board for nine years.

Diane Sager has served as Director of Training/Special Operations for Swetman Security Service, Inc.; as a criminal justice graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi; as manager of Slidell Army Surplus and Outdoor, Inc.; and as manager of Read Army Surplus and Outdoor, Inc. Sager graduated from the University of New Orleans, receiving her Bachelor’s in business administration. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi, earning a Master of Science in criminal justice.

Walter Tucker has served in various law enforcement capacities, such as acting as the Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Criminal Investigations Bureau, Chief of Police of two Mississippi municipalities, and Police Administrator of the Mississippi State Capitol Police. Tucker also enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard, where he was assigned to study the Russian language and geography. He attended the University of Alabama, where Tucker received his Bachelor’s degree in human services with a minor in criminal justice; later, Tucker attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy in Quantico, Viriginia, and the Louisiana State University’s Law Enforcement Institute in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is a former President and member of both the Mississippi Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI National Academy Associates, Mississippi Chapter, and is currently the President of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Retired Troopers Association.

Kenneth Wheeler is a native of Tupelo and currently serves as Director of Security Services for the North Mississippi Medical Center. He received his Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Austin Peay State University and also attended Naval Officer Candidate School in New Port, Rhode Island. Wheeler is a certified master level “Crisis Intervention Instructor” through the Crisis Prevention Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Wheeler is the state Chairman for the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, and has served three consecutive terms as Chairman of Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi.

Elijah Wilson has served as a patrolman for the City of Rollingfork and as a patrolman and narcotics investigator for the City of Greenville. Wilson has also served as a patrolman for Batesville and as Chief of Detectives for Holly Springs. He attended the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy in 1993. Currently, Wilson is a member of the Board of Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Training, and served as the District Director for the Mississippi Association of Drug Enforcement Officers 1998 to 2000.

__________.” The problem with this is that when you’re just starting out, you don’t have the authority to write about anything. So you need to explain that you don’t have the authority, but you’re looking to build it. In other words, you’re looking to build your personal brand. You can do this by writing a guest post for that person – or another authority site – and explaining how you’re a newbie to the space but are looking to build your personal brand. This way, you’re not asking for something for nothing. You’re giving them a reason to write you back.
