Governor Barbour Appoints Gill to Gulf State Marine Fisheries Commission
(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Joseph I. Gill, Jr., of Ocean Springs, as a Commissioner to the Gulf State Marine Fisheries Commission. He will serve a three-year term ending January 19, 2007.
“Joseph is well-qualified for this board,” said Governor Barbour. “He has extensive knowledge and training of marine wildlife and environments, and I feel confident he will serve the people of Mississippi well.”
Joseph Gill attended Perkinston Junior College and Jefferson Davis Community College, where he studied business administration, accounting, and computer science. Gill also attended the Advance Leadership Training and Officer Candidate School for the Mississippi National Guard. In 1980, Gill participated in the Mississippi Supervisor School under the direction of the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
Currently, Gill is the Chief Executive Officer of Joe Gill Consulting, LLC, in Ocean Springs. His consulting agency is an environmental consultant for the President Casino and the Jackson County Board of Supervisors; other clients include two Marine Contractors, the Secretary of State’s Office, and the Keesler Air Force Base. In addition, Gill’s consulting agency serves the City of Ocean Springs, Save America Seafood Industry, Mississippi Check Cashiers Association, and Hercules Fishing Club. A recipient of the “Outstanding Performance Award” from the Bureau of Marine Resources, Gill received the 2nd Annual Eley Ross award in 1994 for his contributions to the seafood industry.
