(Jackson, Miss.)—Governor Haley Barbour announced the appointment of Dr. William N. Nelson, of Yazoo City, to the Yazoo County Port Commission. This commission maintains, operates, and oversees the Port of Yazoo.
“Dr. Nelson will do an excellent job serving the people of Mississippi,” said Governor Barbour. “As a native of Yazoo City, he understands the value of the Port of Yazoo to the county’s economy and will serve successfully on this commission.”
Dr. William N. Nelson has been a practicing dentist in Yazoo City since 1978. He was a United States Army Captain for the Dental Corp. from 1975 to 1978. A member of the Board of Trustees for the Mississippi Dental Society, Dr. Nelson is also a member of the Mississippi Dental Association. He is involved in his community as a member of the Advisory Board for the Yazoo City Public School System and is an adopter of Woolfolk Elementary School. A Board member of the Boys and Girls Club, Dr. Nelson is also Chairman of the Yazoo City Public Service Commission.
Dr. Nelson graduated from Virginia State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in biology. He then attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree. Additionally, Dr. Nelson served on the Board of Trustees for Rust College for 15 years.
